The Marvelettes成軍於1960年，是摩城唱片公司 (Motown)旗下的一支女聲團體，日後曾被木匠兄妹 (The Carpenters)重新詮釋的名作〈Please Mr. Postman〉，原唱者即是她們。1961年，The Marvelettes憑藉著這首組團後發行的第一支單曲，為唱片公司奪得成立以來的首次排行冠軍。
1964年，The Marvelettes推掉了一首〈Where Did Our Love Go〉，灌錄本文介紹的〈Too Many Fish In The Sea〉，這個選擇卻成了她們的轉捩點。
〈Where Did Our Love Go〉先後被幾個團體推掉之後，摩城唱片將它安排給當時仍在排行榜底部徘徊的至上合唱團 (The Supremes)。這首單曲推出六週便躍上冠軍，開啟了至上合唱團的全盛時期，鋒頭之健，堪與「披頭四」、「滾石」匹敵，進而在日後被譽為「最偉大的女聲團體」。
〈Too Many Fish In The Sea〉則在流行榜拿下第25名。在此之前，The Marvelettes已經歷輕微低潮，這支單曲雖然替團體再造另一波為時三年的高峰，但也使她們與二度締造冠軍的機會擦身而過。
由於摩城唱片偏向將製作成本用於暢銷歌手與新人上面，The Marvelettes在成績下跌與得不到經費支援的處境下，於1968年後趨於沒落，並在1972年解散。
